So this was a fun page to work on. It was my first time working with textures in this kind of project and I gotta say, I enjoy the results. I'd gotten the idea from Clockworks, though my implementation looks a good deal different. I'd always loved the style he worked with, especially the low-contrast pictures as background textures and the way he does shadows. I've kind of figured out what works and what doesn't for this kind of project since working on this page, and I've got quite a few ideas on what I'm going to do different in the future, but it was entertaining to make.
In case anyone's wondering, adding textures actually added several hours to the completion time, rather than shortening it like I hoped -- but the backgrounds are more interesting than I was likely to paint back then without a reference, and it gave me a reason to learn how to use the airbrush tool as something other than color correction, so I'd say it's worth it.
Oh, and if you look below, you'll no doubt notice that the comments are up and running again! I'm working on making them prettier, but mostly I'm just glad to have found a kludge to get them working on this platform at all, at least until we move.
So welcome, be nice to each other, and as always, thanks for reading,
